Measure the furniture and the full exit path, not just the nearest doorway. A sofa can clear the front door and still get stuck at a hallway turn, stair landing, or elevator entrance.

Measure the piece at its widest points

Record width, depth, and height. Include arms, feet, handles, trim, and any part that does not compress. For irregular furniture, take a second set of diagonal measurements. Photograph removable legs or sections so the crew can see how the piece comes apart.

Walk the complete route

Measure door openings with the door swung fully out of the way. Check the narrowest hallway point, ceiling height on stairs, landing depth, elevator opening, and the final path to the truck. Move breakable décor before pickup day.

Furniture removal measurement sheet

  • Piece: width × depth × height
  • Narrowest doorway: width × height
  • Hallway width and tightest turn
  • Stair width, landing depth, and overhead clearance
  • Elevator door and cab dimensions, if applicable
  • Distance from exit to truck parking

Decide what can be disassembled

Table legs, bed frames, sectional connectors, and some sofa feet may come apart. Do not force a fitting you do not understand. Set aside the correct hardware in a labeled bag if you disassemble the item yourself.

Share the difficult part before arrival

A tight stair, fragile floor, or long carry is useful information, not a reason to hide the job. It helps the crew decide what equipment and staffing the pickup needs.
